The nativity window, pictured above, is rich in symbolism. It is the first of six which depict events in the life of Christ. Its star of Bethlehem , radiant beams, and manger, depict the birth of Christ. IHS are letters representing Christ. They are the first three letters of Christ's name in Greek, the language of the New Testament. This window is a constant reminder of Jesus and the miracle of His birth. This window was lovingly given to Levy Baptist Church by Diana Harper, in memory of Alvin Harper.

The window pictured above contains symbols associated with the ordinance of baptism. The dove represents the Holy Spirit, which descended as such at Jesus' baptism. The cascading waters falling represent the “much water” required for proper baptism, by immersion. This window was installed in memoriam of Alvin Harper by his wife, Diana Harper, as part of the initial gifts to the renovation project.

The disciples' window, pictured above, features fish caught in a net. It reminds us of Jesus, a fisher of men, calling out His disciples and reminds us of our own calling to be disciples. When Christ began His ministry, one of the first acts was to gather His disciples. >From the Scriptures we have (Matthew 4:18) “And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishers. And he saith unto them, ‘Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.'”

The window pictured above, with loaves and fishes, reminds worshipers of the feeding of the 5,000. It is meant to symbolize, however, all the miracles performed by Jesus Christ. It, with the other windows, is an ever-present spiritual lesson to those who worship in this church. It was a gift to the newly renovated Levy Baptist Sanctuary by George and Esta Dahlke.

The medium of the stained glass artist is not only colored glass but also light itself. The windows of Levy Baptist are designed to be responsive to the changing direction and quality of the sunlight at different times of day and through the seasons of the year. The colors of a window will often be transformed in the brief moment of observation. However, two windows in the Levy Baptist Sanctuary are not accessible to sunlight. Thus, a challenge was presented to the architect and artists to design two windows for artificial lighting. One of these is the crown of thorns window, represented above. The crown of thorns is one of the symbols of the crucifixion of Christ. “And the soldiers led him away...clothed with purple and twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on Him.” (Mark 15:16-17)

The cross and crown window represents Christ's victory. It is so appropriate that this window follows the crown of thorns. Christ was shown in victory at His resurrection, His ascension, and one day when He returns, He'll be wearing a crown as King of kings and Lord of lords. This Second Coming Window puts hope in the heart of every believer who is looking for the return of their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
